Making An Entrance At The Reception
Posted by Fun DMC on March 4th 2016
Last week we discussed picking the music for making an entrance, now lets talk about making sure that it goes off without a hitch. While your job might be simple – walk in to the cheers and adoration of your closest friends and family – you need to make sure that your MC is equipped to do his.
Traditionally, the MC will introduce the bridesmaids and groomsmen, but it’s not unusual to include the parents, flower girls, ring bearers, or even the minister in the procession. Whatever you choose, here are some important tips to making sure the night starts off with a bang!
5 Things The MC Needs To Know
- How many people will be coming in and in what order. This should be planned out and given to the MC in advance of the reception. If there are any changes to this list/order, they need to know as soon as possible. While they might have briefly met the entire wedding party in advance, there is no guarantee that they will remember who is who if there are changes and you could be left with the wrong names assigned to people.
- What is everyone’s name? Like the previous point, do not assume that just because the MC met your parents prior to the wedding, even multiple times, that they will be able to keep everything straight without a list. Fun DMC does multiple weddings a month and things start to run together sometimes. Again, an accurate list is key.
- Are there any names that are remotely difficult to pronounce? Our MC is very good about meticulously going through the list and making sure he is comfortable announcing all the names. However, if there is a name that could possibly have an alternate pronunciation, he is sure to clear it with the couple in advance. Don’t assume every MC will do this! It is embarrassing to have the wrong name announced in front of hundreds of people.
- Speaking of names, do you want first and last names?
- And finally, what song do you want played?
We always like to see a bride and groom keep it simple but fun and suited to their style. We’ve seen some fantastic dance moves and some touching moments, but make sure it represents how you want to be presented to everyone. Even if it is Star Wars themed!
We also recommend having two songs on deck, especially if you have a larger wedding party. An entrance song for the party and an entrance song for you gives more focus on your moment and provides a nice dynamic change with the mood. However, don’t get carried away and try to pull off more songs than two – it never goes quite the way you picture it and gets a little confusing with all the music changes.
Besides, this is the “first impression” of your wedding. Just keep the energy up, make an entrance, and enjoy your moment!
