5 Reasons I LOVE Performing at Wedding Receptions

If you’ve taken even a brief glance at Facebook or Instagram recently, chances are you’ve seen at least one wedding picture. With the warmer weather, we’ve also ushered in the start of Wedding Season. This is easily the busiest time of the year for the wedding industry, which fully includes Fun DMC (your central Illinois, full-service wedding band). We are currently in the midst of our busiest few months to date. Thank goodness we all get along so well because at this point we are spending nearly every weekend this spring, summer, AND fall entertaining together at private parties, charity/special events, weddings, and of course a bar or two along the way.
While I enjoy every chance we have to perform, there is something incredibly special about singing at wedding receptions. The weddings we perform at have a completely different feeling from the other events we have the opportunity to take part in. Weddings are special by nature, of course, but there are so many other reasons I love performing at wedding receptions.
- I LOVE having the honor of being invited to be a part of a wedding day. Your wedding day is one day you will not forget. You spend so long planning every detail and want it to be the most perfect event. The fact that we’ve been invited to be a part of such a special day is a huge honor. We know that wedding decisions aren’t made lightly or without serious discussion and consideration. Thank you for inviting us!
- I LOVE that you actually want us there. As someone at the reception we are singing at, you’ve either hired us or have some relationship with the person who hired us. You are personally invested in the event taking place and are more interested in what we are doing than you might be in a bar or other event where the band performing has no significance to you. When a crowd is up dancing and engaged, I tend to perform better and am able to give more energy! It is such a fun experience getting to interact with a a crowd at a wedding reception.
- I LOVE seeing so many different styles of weddings and receptions. Every wedding I have been to (which is at least a couple dozen at this point) has been unique. There is always something that catches me by surprise or that captures my attention. I am endlessly amazed by the couples’ creativity and love seeing all of the fun personalized details being incorporated into their wedding! Each event has it’s own special flair!
- I LOVE getting dressed up and spending time with my friends. The people I get to call my bandmates are also some of my best friends. We spend a lot of time at loud festivals or bars wearing t-shirts and jeans, not being able to hear each other or have a decent conversation until we are all exhausted and loading out our gear for the night. Having he opportunity to get dressed nicely, enjoy a delightful meal, and spend time with my incredible bandmates in a beautiful setting is always among my favorite things!
- Most of all, I LOVE the joy that is present at a wedding. Of course weddings can be stressful or filled with emotions, but the overwhelming feeling and reason everyone is at the wedding and reception in the first place is rooted in love. Every single person present is there for the same reason. There are so few situations in which every person in a room is united by a single positive factor. At weddings, you can always feel the incredible sense of joy that is shared by the couple’s family and friends. Better yet, we have the opportunity to be a part of some of the most joyful moments such as when the processional starts, introducing the newly married couple, during toasts, and throughout any special dances.
Though performing at a wedding receptions generally means longer days, early set-up times, extra preparation, and often some travel, it is the best experience and all worth it knowing that we are helping create memories that will last a lifetime.
