5 More Questions To Ask Your Wedding Band
Posted by Fun DMC on February 8th 2016
In our second part of Questions To Ask Your Wedding Band series, we cover additional important things to communicate with your entertainment in advance of your special day. Make sure you are always asking questions and are satisfied with the answers. It’s important that you are confident in your wedding band if you’re trusting the success of the reception entirely to them.
6. Will I Need To Provide Anything?
It’s important to know what the band is and is not providing as part of their contract with you. Some bands will not provide wireless microphones for announcements. Some will bring dance floor lighting, some won’t. Some will offer upgrades for things like up lighting and custom gobos. With the exception of those last two (which we do have a very low-cost rental option for), Fun DMC provides everything you need for the reception: microphones, speakers, stage and dance floor lighting, etc. We can even do ceremony sound and lighting!
We also work with a variety of trusted vendors to be able to offer deep discounts on photographers, ceremony performers, photo booths, and more. If you are still shopping for some of these things, please don’t hesitate to ask us for a recommendation!
7. How Much Time Is Included In A Package?
Some bands and especially DJs have a minimum and maximum amount of time that they will perform for. Beyond that, you’re likely to be paying by the hour. Also, keep in mind that bands will need a break and you will need to make sure that there isn’t a drop in energy during this time. We have always found that the sweet spot for the live portion of the performance is about 3 hours. Beyond that, we fill the evening with DJ-style music so we can make sure everyone’s favorite songs and tastes are represented. Additionally, when you book Fun DMC for your event, you aren’t getting us by the hour. We dedicate our day to your reception and include entrance music/announcements, dinner music, special dances, and so on from the beginning to the end of the evening. No additional fees and no nickel and diming to get an extra half hour of music out of us. If you’re still having fun, then we’re sticking around!
8. Will You Learn A Special Song For Our First Dance?
Of course, you and your significant other will have your own special song to share during your first dance. If you’re having a DJ, be sure that they have the correct version! Otherwise, if the band doesn’t have it in their repertoire, see if they would be willing to learn it. With enough notice, Fun DMC is always happy to learn a song to make a moment more memorable, however more often than not we suggest that it is included in the prerecorded music section of the evening, so that way it is played the exact way you both know it. We also tend to learn special songs for other moments in the evening as well!
9. Do You Have Any Songs You Recommend?
If you’re not completely sure on a track listing or set list, ask whether your wedding band can recommend anything. A good entertainer will have suggestions for the first dance and popular songs that are sure to get everyone on their feet.
10. Can You Also Be The MC?
There are many important announcements and touch points throughout the evening that will need to be called out. If you don’t have someone in mind to coordinate and be the MC for these moments, most entertainers are ready to jump in. Fun DMC usually ends up MCing and we work very closely with the scheduler or coordinator to get the entire layout and order of the events so that everything can go smoothly.
