The Garter Toss can be a very fun event at any wedding reception. If you decide to include this moment in your reception, it’s definitely an opportunity to put on a show!

The Garter Toss

If you’re following traditional custom, the MC will instruct the “single” or unmarried guys at the reception to make their way to the dance floor and wait while the groom removes the garter from the Bride’s leg. This is usually the cue for the first song. Fun DMC always has a couple of go-to songs on standby in the event that one wasn’t selected, but we work very closely with the couple to make sure that they have a hand in every part of the wedding music. Once the garter is removed, the groom will wait for the MC to hype up the audience and then tosses the garter into the group of guys as they fight to either catch it or get as far away as possible. Regardless of who ends up with the garter, it’s always an upbeat moment and is great for fun pictures.

Song Selection

Picking the right song for a garter toss (and likewise the bouquet toss) should be an easy and fun decision for the bride and groom-to-be. There’s not necessarily a “standard” or “typical” song. Of course, because this event could be considered a little risque’ (and while many couples choose to not include it in the reception at all), a slow, romantic tune probably isn’t the best bet.
