New Salem Roots, Lakeside Christian Church, and Shake The Lake
Posted by Robert Reynolds on July 6th 2018
We are in the eye of a summer hurricane. In other words, we are in the midst of our busy season with no end in sight for a few months. And this isn’t necessarily a bad thing. After all, some schools of thoughts would say that it’s better to be frantic and exhausted than to be forgotten.
New Salem Roots
Saturday kicked things off at New Salem Roots for the wedding of Isaiah and Brittany Wells. We had booked this wedding almost a year ago and had been looking forward to it ever since. In some respects, wedding season has an almost reunion feel to it. The vendors, planners, and caterers in Central Illinois are becoming familiar faces. Matt DeBackere on photography, Fulgenzi’s on catering, and Katie Centeno with Pink Anchor on wedding planning. The wedding ceremony was held outside in the back field overlooking a beautiful backdrop of a small pond just near a well-forested treeline. It was truly a beautiful ceremony with only one small issue – it was 95 degrees with not so much as even a small cloud in the sky. Suffice it to say the wedding party and their guests spent as little time as possible outside and quickly made their way back to the reception hall. The band played an extended set well into the night and never lacked for participants on the dance floor.
Lakeside Christian Church Cook & Cruise
Early the next morning the band arrived on site at Lakeside Christian Church for their annual food truck and classic car event, Cook And Cruise. In spite of a slight delay in stage setup (to no fault of our host at all) the band started on time and delivered a high energy performance for the 700 guests of LSCC. In addition, it is worth mentioning that Fun DMC has rarely found a host as hospitable as the good folks at Lakeside. We were treated very well, never lacked for food or water at any time and we hope to be back for the event next year.
Shake The Lake Fourth of July
Finally, on Wednesday, the 4th Of July, Fun DMC was part of Decatur’s 95Q Shake The Lake celebration and fireworks display. To date, and likely because our signature star spangled jackets, this was the hottest show we have ever played. By the end of the first set the band was drenched and dousing themselves in water and cold towels. To close out the night, Albert performed a stirring rendition of the Star Spangled Banner before Lake Decatur became center stage for a lovely display of fireworks.
The band will be at their beloved Blue Grouch beer garden tonight and at the Springfield Row Raiser to benefit the Special Olympics tomorrow morning. We hope to see you out there soon.
