Behind The Scenes
Posted by Fun DMC on February 12th 2016
The members of Fun DMC are always up for a putting spin on iconic cultural references. Feeling the need to create promotional material for an upcoming Valentine’s themed show, the idea of a dance instructional video emerged. As ideas were developed and the concept evolved, photographer and filmmaker, Travis Lickey of Apt Foto, was brought on board to add a cinematic quality to the project.
The original vision was to create a throwback to the old Goofy instructional cartoons made by Disney back in the 1950’s. As writing continued, the band would add an obvious nod to one of their favorite movies, Back To The Future. Props were borrowed, thrift shops were scoured, and script writing continued. In January, the group gathered in an old church basement to film what would come to be known as “Learn To Dance With Fun DMC.”
The process process proved to be arduous as gaining only four or five minutes of footage took over five hours of filming. Another two days of post production and editing and the band released their first short film on February 1st. It quickly became a favorite among fans and to date, it is the highest viewed video on their Facebook page and YouTube channel.

Trivia: Robert is quite inept at dancing, a trait that was not overlooked in casting his awkward portrayal. During the dance sequence with his wife, Laura, Robert relied on Albert to count out steps for him while off camera.
