Behind The Music
Posted by Fun DMC on June 16th 2016
Fun DMC is made up of a diverse group of musicians from Central Illinois. Of course there is more to each of them beyond their stage personalities and that is the topic of today’s blog post. For our fans who want to know a bit behind the scenes, these are the members of Fun DMC:
Talon Holmes – Drums
Our story begins with the tale of a young man, a dream, and a Rock Band video game drum kit. Talon Holmes has quickly become a recognizable name in the Central Illinois music scene. With his metronome like precision and otherworldly ability to steer the band into drastic transitions like a percussive ninja, Mr. Holmes is the cornerstone of the Fun DMC rhythm section. By day he is a Health Physics Tech for the Illinois Emergency Management Agency. According to Talon, his job is to “perform environmental monitoring around the state’s nuclear power plants and other sites with radioactive materials by taking environmental samples and exchanging dosimeters around each site. I also maintain the environmental dosimetry program and track data from the samples.” When not playing out with Fun DMC, Talon Holmes can be found diligently making his way through Dark Souls III, not spoiling Game Of Thrones for his friends, and volunteering his time on Sunday mornings at Central Baptist Church.
Albert Capati – Vocals
It’s been almost a year since Dr. Albert Capati rocked his first show with Fun DMC. A monster vocalist, the Doc probably burns the calorie equivalent of a P90X workout every show. Well versed in both stage acting as well as dance, Dr. Capati is the embodiment of classic entertainment’s triple threat of talent. In addition to the Fun DMC stage, Albert also leads Central Illinois’ newest supergroup, Take 10, a ten piece powerhouse in the tradition of groups such as Chicago and Earth, Wind, And Fire. When not behind the mic, Dr. Capati is the owner of one of Springfield’s premier dental practices, Capati Dental. From Albert: “I’ve been a dentist since graduating from Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine in 2002. Working only 4 days a week helps out when being in two bands. Lately my other band, Take 10, has been holding practice in my office’s patient reception area. Besides fixing people’s teeth and singing in bands, I play soccer and participate in community theater. I once owned a retail store that sold comic books and games.”
Paige Martin – Vocals
Paige joined Fun DMC on their first New Year’s Eve show at Marly’s Pub. A last minute fill in for founding female vocalist, Jennifer Dowell, who was battling voice issues at the time, Paige would become a permanent member of the Fun DMC family later that summer. A country girl at heart but don’t let that fool you for a second, Paige Martin is every bit as comfortable in a variety of vocal duties whether it’s covering the rapid fire hip hop styling of Nelly or the all out rock vocals of Journey. One of the band’s longest running members, Paige is an integral part of the Fun DMC live show, bringing an engaging stage presence that fires up crowds every night. Paige is currently pursuing her degree in Psychology at UIS and plans to continue her education and obtain her Masters’ degree in ABA. When she’s not singing with Fun DMC, she is employed as a Registered Behavior Technician at The Autism Clinic. In her free time she enjoys painting, hanging out with her family, and the occasional Netflix marathon.
Aaron Stanley – Bass/Vocals
The only true founding member of Fun DMC, Aaron Stanley is the mind behind the band you know and love. Initially taking up duties on guitar and keyboards, “Wonderbread” (as he is affectionately known to his band mates), eventually moved over to bass guitar when former bassist Brian Armstrong stepped down from the band. An innovator and a powerhouse of imagination, it’s not uncommon for the “Donatello” of our group to be found rigging a Nintendo controller to play keyboard sounds, experimenting with how to transmit audio through fruits and vegetables, or building a fully lit, DMX capable drum riser out of Lowe’s buckets. When not on the stage with Fun DMC, Aaron is an Internet Strategy Specialist at Horace Mann Educators Corporation. He is responsible for the online customer experience strategy and integrated digital marketing strategy to generate more usage of Horace Mann’s online services. In addition, he is responsible for digital ad management and Search Engine Optimization as well as serving as business analyst and liaison for the web development team. In the words of Wonderbread himself, “basically, I make sure people can find us on the web.”
Robert – Guitar/Vocals
Though not a founding member, Robert was a part of the Fun DMC transition from typical party band to “mashups and medleys.” A guitar player whose influence lies in the ethereal textures of British bands such as U2, Radiohead, and Coldplay, Robert now finds himself covering a wide array of dance pop’s greatest hits on any given night. In addition to guitarist, Robert is the primary wedding planner for the band. He regularly meets with brides to help plan out, coordinate, and customize both their wedding ceremonies and receptions. He has even been know to occasionally officiate their marriage. When not playing guitar with Fun DMC, Robert is also the Worship Arts Director at Central Baptist Church. His primary task is to coordinate with volunteers to plan and implement any artistic elements for Sunday services. In addition, Robert is also a guitar instructor at Daddy’Os Music Shack. When not working, Robert can be found at the Route 66 Drive-In, hanging out with the noon class at CrossFit Instinct, taking road trips with Laura and Audrey, and arguing with Aaron about everything.
