Name: Jonathan Dark
Location: Springfield, IL
Band: Brandy Kristin & The Revival
What got you started playing bass?
Probably early Jackson 5 and just Motown in general. They always had those infectious hooks and bouncy bass lines.
What bass players inspire you?
Matt Freeman and John Entwistle
What song has challenged you the most?
“Press Corpse” by Anti-flag, and “Maxwell Murder” by Rancid (I still can’t play that one right)
What’s your favorite song to play in your current band’s set?
That’s hard to say, we’ve been working on some new stuff I’m really excited about but I don’t know if I’m allowed to say just yet.
Of the current stuff probably “Still in to You” by Paramore it’s got a fun busy bass line that keeps you moving.
What’s the most overplayed song?
Just one? Probably “Shook me all night long” by AC/DC. It’s a good song, I like playing it, and crowds still love it. But it’s the one song you will hear every band from rock to country to polka throw in to their set.
What’s the most memorable thing that happened to you at a gig?
Actually just about six or seven months ago, We had just finished the last song of the night and this girl runs up on the stage and plants a big hard kiss on me right on the lips. My wife (who was in the crowd) just laughed at me cause it caught me so off guard I was left kind of speechless and just awkward.
What’s your current rig?
Fender Precision Bass
Fender Jazz Bass
SWR Workingman
Two 4×10 cabinets
It’s quiet, durable, and has a nice punchy tone for that rich James Jamerson, Phil Lynott type sound.
