1. Who are you/what’s your elevator pitch to couples interested in your work?
Steve & Tiffany offer a photojournalism approach to weddings because we worked for actual newspapers as photojournalists! We have been in business for 10 years and focus on being helpful and unobtrusive on your wedding day.
2. What do you think are important questions a couple should ask when choosing a photographer?
Couple should ask, “How do you back up our wedding photos during & after the wedding day?” And,
“Do you have safeguards/backups in place if something happens to you or your equipment?”
3. How does a couple pick a good photographer out of the dozens in the area?
The best way to choose a great photographer out of the dozens in the area is to meet with the photographers themselves and spend a little time with them. Then ask yourself, “Is this someone I want with me ALL DAY on one of the best & perhaps most stressful days of my life?”
Also, be sure to look at several weddings from beginning to end, not just a couple of good shots from each wedding. Look for consistency in quality shots and catching the moments. Talk to couples who have hired them and ask them about their experience.
4. What is your go-to tip for making the wedding day go smoothly for everyone?
Have a timeline that includes everything you want to do on your day but that also includes some downtime so you aren’t rushed. (Tiffany loves helping couples with their timeline!)
5. What advice do you always give a couple before their wedding day?
I ask each couple what moment is most important to them on their wedding day. I then help them focus their energy on those moments. I also highlight those moments in the wedding book that I design for them.
6. What can a couple do to make sure they look good in their photos?
Nothing beats well-fitting clothes. Dress and tux/suit alterations are worth their weight in gold. When your clothes fit perfectly, you hold yourself a bit higher.
7. Why is wedding photography so expensive?
If you hire an experienced professional, they are going to have overhead such as business insurance, backup equipment, several digital back up systems, software updates, continuing education and many other things. And you aren’t just paying for one day. Photographers with good customer service spend hours preparing and meeting with you before the wedding and many hours processing your images and taking care of you after the wedding. You are not just paying for their time on your wedding day.
8. Why don’t you give out the original pictures or the whole day’s shoot?
We include high-resolution versions of your wedding images in some of our packages. But what we really want is for you to have an heirloom-quality wedding book to hand down to your children and grandchildren. Digital mediums change and images are easily lost that way. There is no substitute for a book of your memories handmade in Italy.
9. How far in advance should a couple book?
Couples should book anywhere from 6-12 months out, depending on the popularity of their wedding date.
10. Should a couple tip a photographer?
As owners of our business we never expect a tip.
