20 Unique Arrangements of Popular First Dance Songs

For our wedding, my wife and I spent more time planning the music for the ceremony for itself than the reception. We had The String Quartet Tribute to Muse playing while ushers were seating guests, Ben Folds’s “The Luckiest” sang during the unity candle lighting, and she walked down the aisle to the Beach Boys’ “Wouldn’t It Be Nice”. Everyone’s favorite part was us leaving the ceremony to The Darkness’ “I Believe In A Thing Called Love.” For our first dance as a married couple, we kept it fairly traditional with Israel Kamakawiwo’ole’s “Somewhere Over The Rainbow”. Our goal was to create an event that people would remember because it was different from other ceremonies and we still get people talking about the music from that day even 9 years later.
Suffice to say, we have odd tastes for our special songs, and as a wedding band, we’ve found over the years that my wife and I are not alone. While there’s a reason that the standards are the standards, and there’s nothing wrong with any of the traditional first dance songs, sometimes couples want something a little more classic or mellow than what their favorite song calls for. Here are some fantastic versions of popular first dance songs that have been covered or rearranged by different artists.
