The Alamo and a Much-Needed Christmas Break
Posted by Robert Reynolds on December 21st 2017
This time of year is always an exciting and much-anticipated season for the cast and crew of Fun DMC. After months and months of non-stop performances we are taking 2 weeks off during the month of December.
That said, the weeks leading up to our much-needed respite have been nothing short of eventful. The first Friday of the month found the band joined by some of their closest friends for the 4th annual Fun DMC hosted Toys for Tots fundraiser known as “Christmas at the Curve.” The roster for the Curve Inn stage included party rock band, Brandy Kristen and the Revival as well as one of the area’s hottest new bands to come out in the last year, Smashtag. Fun DMC of course played the middle set and were joined by a group of auxiliary musicians who brought their talents to assist us in our presentation of three Trans-Siberian Orchestra classics, “Wizards In Winter,” “O Come All Ye Faithful,” and “Christmas Eve Sarajevo 12/24” (Carol Of The Bells). The lineup included two extra electric guitar players, a violin player, a flautist, and even our very own Katey Kamerad found herself wielding a hammer to literally play the “Carol of the Bells.” We as a band are very thankful to both Ami Merchant and Ric Major for helping us pull off the event and surpassing our numbers yet again.
Last Saturday night, the DMC show arrived in Downtown Springfield for a late show at The Alamo. Downtown has changed in many respects over the last five years and while the band wasn’t sure what they could expect we were still eager for the chance to bring our music to a new crowd. After a few logistical acrobatics and cramming the band into a “Nashville-style” stage, the show kicked off and the dance floor was packed from start to finish. The scene was a bit surreal as the Alamo was also playing host to a “Roaring Twenties” style birthday party and flapper girls, a few Dapper Dans, and even Charlie Chaplain made an appearance. Suffice it to say, the night was one to remember and we hope top return soon.
We also bought a trailer.
We also recorded a music video.
A lot is going on really.
