The Making of the I Can’t Feel My Face Parody Video
Posted by Albert Capati on April 28th 2017
The idea was in my mind for awhile since the original song “I Can’t Feel My Face” by The Weeknd just screams out “make a dental parody of me!” I was just getting started working with CYMB Consulting to help promote my dental practice and pitched this idea to them. Charles loved the idea and told me to get it done so we can schedule a video shoot. I asked the band if they wanted to be in a dental parody music video to promote my dental practice, and of course they said yes. I wrote the lyrics in one night, then we gathered into Robert’s basement and recorded it. I called out to my friends on Facebook to star as extras and a few came out. We filmed the outdoor shot on top of a parking structure in downtown Springfield, and we shot the indoor sequence in my office the next day. Charles shot the whole thing on an iPhone 7+ while riding a borrowed hover board.
We dropped the final video on Facebook the morning after Easter and watched as the video views grew. I had no idea what to expect, but it blew my mind that over 6000 people viewed it the first day and that doubled the next day. It has been seen over 23,000 times and shared about 200 times. Katey, Robert, and I got to perform it live on the WDBR morning show. We do the original song in our regular Fun DMC set and I’m finding it hard not to sing the parody lyrics. Robert’s been called out twice on the street as that guy in the music video with the doctor. We’re officially Springfield famous!
